LEARN MORE ABOUT ABIQUIU, NM 87510

People have been searching for Abiquiu Real Estate since the 1700s. First settled as a frontier of the Spanish America, the settlers were mainly Genizaros - who by enslavement, trade, or capture were removed from their Native Indian families and became part of the Hispanic culture. The Genizaros spoke several languages and were very knowledgeable about exploration, frontier life and the lay of Abiquiu Land. Abiquiú had become the third largest settlement in the Spanish America by the 1730's.

Two of the most famous and popular words associated with Abiquiú are "Georgia O'Keeffe" and "Pedernal".  The famous painter, Georgia O'Keeffe, resided in Abiquiú at both her Abiquiú and Ghost Ranch homes from 1949 until shortly before her death in 1986. Pedernal, also known as Cerro Pedernal, is a thin narrow mesa above the villages of Canones and Youngsville that overlooks Abiquiu Lake in the Jemez Mountains. Several of Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings were of Pedernal, her beloved mountain, and her ashes were scattered on its top.

Abiquiu is the place you move when you are searching for a welcoming community of diverse individuals with backgrounds from all over the world. Spending only ten minutes at Bode's General Store will better your understanding of the cultural importance, the diversity and the beauty of this small northern New Mexico town (village).Â
